FAYM Registration FAQs
Interested in FAYM? Have a question? Read the answers to these most-commonly asked questions!
Will there be an instrument demo this semester?
Yes - the instrument demo will be in mid-August. Students will get to see, hear, hold, and play all of the instruments of the band and orchestra.
I want to sign up for band or orchestra, but I don't know what to play.
Come to the instrument demoin mid-August to help you decide. Register for classes first, in order to reserve a spot in a class, and list the instrument you are most likely to choose. It's easy for us to change your registration after the demo.
I'm new to FAYM, but I already know how to play an instrument. Do I have to audition?
Yes! The teacher needs to meet all new band and orchestra students and help you enroll for the class that best fits your level of experience. Please sign up for the EARLIEST AVAILABLE audition time. Click here to sign up for an audition.
I've already taken theory classes from another source. Do I still have to take the theory placement test?
Yes! All students interested in any music theory class are required to take the placement test. This is because FAYM has seven levels of theory, and we want students to be in the class that best fits their current level of knowledge. Please sign up for the EARLIEST AVAILABLE test time. Click here to sign up for a placement test.
Should I wait until my audition/testup/placement test/demo to register for my classes?
NO! We really need your information as soon as possible. In fact, we can't audition or test any student that hasn't registered yet. Please register first, before you attend the demo or audition or placement test. When the registration form asks a question about instrument or level, just put the instrument or level that you think you are most likely to choose, and we can easily adjust your registration after the demo or audition.
Do I have to pay the registration fee when I sign up, even if I don't know which class to take?Yes! There is a LOT of work that goes in to running FAYM. The coordinators spend a LOT of time on updating the website, processing forms, and listening to your auditions and testups. The registration fee is a REQUIREMENT when you register, even if you change your mind or drop the class. As soon as your registration form is submitted, the registration fee is a required payment.
Upon registration (and activation of your account), a minimum payment of the registration fee ($30) PLUS at least the 1st tuition installment is due immediately (on January 1). If the required payment is not received within 3 business days of your activation notice, the registration will be deleted.
