We welcome all homeschooled students from Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Caroline, King George, Orange, Culpeper, and other surrounding areas.
FAYM is an organization that is dedicated to providing musical classes, ensembles, and opportunities to ALL homeschoolers in the greater Fredericksburg area, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or background.
Age limits are firm! Please do NOT sign up your child for a class if he is outside of the age range without discussing it with the director first! Email [email protected] with questions regarding age limits.
Most classes are for students between the ages of 8 and 18. The Elementary Music Class is an "introduction to music" class for young students aged 6 and 7. The Recorder Class is a pre-band or -orchestra class and is geared towards younger students (ages 7 to 9). Check the Class Description page for age requirements.
In the Band and Orchestra classes, students are grouped by level of experience, not age. Students can start the beginning classes with absolutely no experience. The intermediate and advanced ensembles are for students with more advanced training and experience. Students have opportunities to step up to the next group level when ready.
Instrumentation for any of the band classes includes: flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion. (Percussionists will attend a separate percussion class as well as their coordinating band level class.)
Instrumentation for any of the strings classes includes: violin, viola, cello, and bass. Harp students may be admitted on a case-by-case basis. Email [email protected] and ask about availability if you are a harp student.
Instrumentation for Jazz Band (spring semester only): saxophones, trumpets, trombones, drumset, piano, guitar, bass. Flute, clarinet, F horn, and tuba are also invited, however, they are strongly encouraged to try saxophone, trumpet, or trombone. Loaner instruments may be available for students who want to explore a new instrument.
